Estonian International Maritime Law Association
- is non-commercial association founded on July, 2nd, 2004. The Associations
operates under the Constitution of the Estonian Republic, Laws of
the Estonian Republic (trading navigation laws, the law on safety
of navigation, etc.), and also norms of International law.
The primary goals of the Association are:
Research in the field of theoretical and applied problems of the maritime law connected with navigation, fishery, carrying out of scientific researches of the World ocean, protection of the sea environment, maintenance of safety by the seas and oceans;
Development and studying of legal doctrines, principles and norms promoting maintenance and strengthening of Estonian sea policy at the international level;
Participation in preparation of projects dedicated to international maritime conventions and acts;
Acquaint the public with the foreign legislation, contractual practice, documents of the international organizations and conferences;
Inform scientific and business circles of other countries on the domestic doctrine of maritime law (the legislation and practice in this area).
The role of Association is to advance the effective development of modern commercial maritime legislation in Estonia, as well as international legislation by conducting cooperation with various international organizations.
Besides above listed, at Association constantly operates "Learning-Methodical Center". Aim of the center is to organize educational process (licenses for small crafts).
Our Association starts to build business relations with Associations of Marine law of Russia, Finland, England, Germany, Sweden, Norway and Holland. At present Estonian Association cooperates with Russia Maritime Law Association, Organizations of Sea and river transport of Russia, the Ministry of Transport of Russia and other organizations for the purpose of attraction of freight traffics through ports of Estonia. In territory of Estonia the Association conducts active cooperation with Estonian Maritime Administration, with Estonian Sea Academy, with Narva Club of Young Seamen.
The association brings the powerful contribution to business of propagation of domestic concepts in the field of international maritime law, by carrying out regularly general meetings of Association Members, conferences, seminars and classes (improvement of professional skill of experts), with attraction of scientists, lawyers and experts from foreign countries. The association plans to let out in the near future materials of assemblies of its members, the review of the international scientific conferences and symposiums concerning international marine law, changes in the legislation, and also bibliographic indexes of the literature on maritime law.
Currently there are 22 private persons and 3 legal persons owing EIMLA membership.
